This process begins as soon as the
viewer enters the arena's exterior plaza and first glimpses the work.
As the viewer moves closer to the lobby, they have to engage their
gaze of the piece more overtly in order to perceive its mediated aspects.
This mediated experience finally breaks down into abstract movements
of light and color as they enter the lobby and the physical nature
of the relief surface comes into recognition, which is a hyper-natural
relief of organic forms cast in anodized aluminum. The wall relief,
while appearing to be a representation of a known real or natural
environment, is itself a processed and condensed representation, analogous
to the condition of the physical events that take place within the
arena. |
